Anna Allen Persephone Pants in our Robert Kaufman Ventana twill

Posted by Claire Gilmore on

I enjoyed every stitch of this project. Quite a statement to make and, I don’t know about you, not one that I say very often! The pattern, the instructions, the fabric, the anticipation of the end result, mastering a new design element; all of these things combined to make these pants my favourite me-made garment to date.

The fabric is our Robert Kaufmann Ventana Twill, a high quality twill with a beautifully deep yellow colour.  We also stock it in forest green and blue. It behaved itself very well throughout and did not shift or stretch out of shape at all during construction. I have washed my trousers several times (I’ve basically worn them every weekend since I made them) and they still look good as new.

The pants have cool construction; no side seams, and a super high waist.  I was between 2 sizes and opted for the bigger to accommodate my hips. I read on another review that Anna recommends cutting the smaller waist band and increasing the size of the darts at the back if this happens and I thing I’ll try that next time.  To be honest I think there are a number of fitting tweaks I could do on these but regardless I still love them! I bought the zipper expansion, the button fly is just not my thing. The instructions and accompanying illustrations are spot on and, unusually for me, I didn’t take any wrong turns.  The first time I did up that zip fly I was ridiculously proud of myself!

I will definitely repeat this pattern, I’m already eyeing up some pastel denim for our spring stock… ;)
