Sew Over It Whitley top by Guest Blogger, Catherine Dooher

I was very lucky to have been asked to go and preview The Dab Hand’s new selection of fabrics for their next pop up, and select one to make up for the party season. As always they had an amazing array of fabrics, colours and choices and I could easily have chosen 5 or 6 different things I wanted to make. However, the magpie in me was immediately drawn to this stunning sequin leopard print black fabric. That description makes it seems like there’s a lot going on and like it could be a bit much – but the black...

Named Clothing Saraste Shirt in meetMilk Tencel Twill

I had such high expectations of the meetMilk tencel twill.  It promised rich jewel colours, a luxe look & feel, and a lovely balance of substance and drape.  100% my vibe and I’m delighted to say that it really delivers.  Inspired by AW19 trends, we ordered Navy, Deep Green, Maroon and Rust.  As they all go together so beautifully, I tried my hand at some colour blocking, inspired by this Boden shirt dress.    I thought the princess seams of the Named Clothing Saraste shirt / shirt dress would be a nice way to achieve this kind of look.    The Breaking the Pattern...

The neckline feels quite high...

Anna Allen Persephone Pants in our Robert Kaufman Ventana twill

I enjoyed every stitch of this project. Quite a statement to make and, I don’t know about you, not one that I say very often! The pattern, the instructions, the fabric, the anticipation of the end result, mastering a new design element; all of these things combined to make these pants my favourite me-made garment to date.   The fabric is our Robert Kaufmann Ventana Twill, a high quality twill with a beautifully deep yellow colour.  We also stock it in forest green and blue. It behaved itself very well throughout and did not shift or stretch out of shape at...

Deer & Doe Plantain Tee in our Art Gallery Fabrics Jersey

It turns out that when you have school-age kids, you get major back to school vibes in September.  Ever the practical thinker, for me this manifested as a realisation that I need more casual, long sleeved tops that I don’t have to iron.        I’ve been looking for a basic T-shirt pattern that will become my T&T (Tried & Tested) for casual tops.  The Plantain tee is a free pattern from Deer & Doe and I liked the look of the scoop neckline and loose fit.  For my first crack at it, I chose a lovely jersey by Art Gallery...
