Our Story 2

We grew up in a family of skilled seamstresses where curtains, soft furnishings, quilts and clothes were regularly sewn at home. We had dabbled a little ourselves, without truly succumbing to the magic that is creating your own bespoke wardrobe. Then in 2018 we signed up for an introductory garment sewing class and so our passionate affair with dressmaking began!

There is a thriving online community of Northern Ireland sewists, many of whom meet in real life to sew and socialise. Indeed the Dressmakers Anonymous Belfast meet-up group served as inspiration for our name – The Dab Hand is a tribute to the lovely community of sewists who welcomed us with open arms!

Our selection of fabrics is carefully curated with the modern maker in mind.  Our goal is to inspire you to create your perfect handmade wardrobe.

And if you are lucky enough to live locally to TDH HQ, our regular pop up shops provide garment makers the chance to touch, stroke and feel amazing fabrics that they can turn into beautiful clothes!

Happy Sewing!
